For several fantastic days we gazed out upon the glistening Andaman Sea and watched as the sun set fire to the sky from our own private pool terrace. Magical. Kata Rocks is a luxury 5-star resort in the Kata area of Phuket, Thailand, that has been built upon and moulded around what once was nothing but a coastline of massive boulders and craggy rocks to create a romantic cliff-side retreat.
Though we were on the east side of the world, strolling around this swanky resort made us feel like we had somehow wandered over to Santorini with slick white on white architecture and the sapphire blue backdrop of pools and sea.
There are buggies at the ready if you want to be driven anywhere within the property because, even though the resort doesn’t spawn for acres, the design of a resort built on tiers of rocks means you’ll be walking up and down steep paved slopes. We still opted to walk most of the time though, because the slopes weren’t that taxing and the only area you’d want to walk to would be poolside, which is where all of the facilities were.
Kata Rocks’ infinity pool is the selling point of this high-end Phuket resort because of its uninterrupted view of the Andaman Sea and beyond. We spent most of our time lounging on the water immersed sunbeds taking in the serenity of their stunning infinity pool. If you wish to further your relaxation, treat yourself to a pampering therapeutic treatment at the Infinite Luxury Spa. We both dozed off during our sessions as we succumbed to their catatonic inducing Thai Wellness Philosophies.
Meals are a fantastic treat at all times of the day at Kata Rocks because their seafront restaurant is also located at poolside. We tried breakfast and lunch and helped ourselves to several tasty sunset cocktails. Everything was elegantly presented and delicious. With such a quality serving, combined with the spectacular view and exemplary cocktails, it is little wonder why this is considered to be one of the best restaurants in Phuket. The resort takes booking requests from outside patrons on a daily basis for the experience of having dinner on the rocks.
The villa that we stayed in was the One-Bedroom Sky Pool Villa. Roll up those electronic blinds to be blown away by that breath-taking view from your chic and minimalist living room area. And get even closer to that horizon from your own private infinity pool.
Keep in mind that the Pool Villas are tiered so anyone located higher up could see into your pool if they really wanted to, but that shouldn’t deter you from a midnight swim beneath the stars. We loved our private pool and it was such a pleasure to have the ability to watch the sunset from the comfort of our own terrace every evening.
Kata Rocks’s villas are all fully equipped with kitchens containing everything you could possibly need (including Nespresso machines!) to cook and entertain so you never have to leave your room if you don’t want to. We ordered takeaway one night just to fully utilise the villa’s facilities.
If you do decide you want to go out, the cliff perched resort is situated less than a 10 minute walk away from streets lined with bars and restaurants as well as the popular Phuket beaches, Kata Noi and Kata Yai. All of which was very easy to walk in and out from the resort.
Thailand is renowned for its Thai Hospitality, but even still, we were hugely impressed by the level of service given by Kata Rocks from the moment our private transfer came to collect us from another resort. Our host, Annie, was beyond helpful. She is knowledgeable, helpful, kind and so very capable. She helped and advised with everything requested while also anticipating our needs in an effort to go the extra mile to help us where she could. Annie arranged our departure transfer to the bus station, and we were escorted to the station where the staff bought tickets for us and made sure we got on the right bus to Krabi.
The layout of the resort makes it not extremely family friendly, so we would recommend Kata Rocks to honeymooners looking to stay somewhere memorable on a honeymoon to Phuket or to those travelling to Phuket looking for a special place to stay.
